In House Laboratory
Bisley Veterinary Surgery has a fully equipped Laboratory Facility and can run a number of blood, urine and hair tests in-house. These include complete red blood cell counts (haematology), biochemistry, and electrolytes. The machines allow us to run blood profiles within minutes of taking blood samples.
Haematology results tell us what is happening with the red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets. This allows us to identify whether a patient has an infection, is anaemic, has a low platelet count; or any other abnormalities that can occur within these parts of the blood.
Electrolytes measure sodium, potassium and chloride. This allows us to monitor certain diseases, such as Addisons Disease and to supplement potassium intravenously when the body levels are low.
Biochemistry results of the blood give us an indication of what is happening within the body. When different tissues are damaged the damaged cells release specific enzymes which our equipment detects as abnormal levels. This then helps localise the problem. Also if certain organs are not eliminating certain waste products this can tell us if they are not functioning properly.
Urine Analysis will give us valuable information on whether your pet is drinking more than normal, if the kidneys are unable to concentrate the urine or simply, whether your pet is suffering from a urinary tract infection.
Microscopy allows examination of blood smears to assess red and white blood cell shape, hair samples to determine the presence of parasites and urine samples for further information on urine crystals. The gaining of information helps to diagnose your pet’s disease or condition.
We also work alongside an efficient external Laboratory offering a range of diagnostic tests.
